Understanding the Setup

Before we dive into the steps, it's essential to understand the basic concept. We're essentially creating a scene in OBS Studio that overlays a background image with the live feed from Vixi Live. OBS will then output this combined video as your final stream. An important thing to note is that this is intended for if you need compositing help and adjusting/cropping your feed. All compositing otherwise can be done natively within the suite.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Install and Open OBS Studio:

  • Download OBS Studio from the official website (https://obsproject.com/) and install it on your computer.

  • Open OBS Studio.

2. Create a New Scene:

  • Click the "+" button to create a new scene under the Scenes section.

  • Give your scene a descriptive name, such as "VixiLiveStream".

3. Add a Background Image:

  • Click the "+" button to add a new source under the Sources section.

  • Select "Image" as the source type.

  • Give your image source a name (e.g., "Background").

  • Click the "Browse" button to select the image file you want to use as your background.

  • Adjust the image size and position as desired by dragging the corners and edges of the image preview.

4. Add the Vixi Live Raw Output Feed:

  • Click the "+" button under the Sources section again to add another source.

  • Select "Browser" as the source type.

  • Give your browser source a name (e.g., "VixiLiveFeed").

  • In the "URL" field, paste the Vixi Live Raw Output feed URL.

  • Adjust the width and height of the browser source to match your desired feed size.

5. Crop and Reposition the Feed:

  • Select the "VixiLiveFeed" source in your scene.

  • You can use the crop and resize tools in OBS to adjust the feed's appearance.

  • Drag and drop the feed to position it correctly within the scene.

6. Fine-Tune Your Scene:

  • You can add more sources to your scene, such as text overlays, logos, or additional images.

  • Adjust each source's opacity, scaling, and positioning to achieve your desired look.

  • Use the transitions and filters options in OBS to enhance your stream's visual appeal.

7. Play it Out

  • Now it's time to protect your display. Right-click on your source and hover over "Full Projector (Source) " and select one of the sources.

  • This will put the feed into full-screen mode

  • From here, you're ready to start your show!

  • Additional Tips

  • Optimize Performance: Ensure your computer has sufficient processing power and a stable internet connection for smooth streaming.

  • Test Your Setup: Before you go live, you can test your OBS setup to identify any issues or performance bottlenecks.

  • Use Hotkeys: Customize hotkeys for commonly used actions in OBS to streamline your workflow.

  • Consider Using Scenes: Create multiple scenes for different parts of your stream, such as an intro scene, main content scene, and outro scene.

  • Explore OBS Features: Experiment with different OBS features, such as color correction, audio filters, and scene transitions, to enhance your stream's production value.

  • Following these steps and experimenting with OBS's features, you can create professional-looking streams using Vixi Live as your video source.
